The noise, the mess and the smiles: Insights on how to foster Creative Courage in Primary Students through Making.
In this talk, I would like to share some of the insights that I have gathered while running workshops at Singapore Schools, and with the general public over the last 5 years. I hope these insights can drive or spearhead the important conversations we need to have among the stakeholders to improve the Maker Education scene in Singapore given the different challenges and opportunities we have ahead. This talk will also give you a glance on how to manage and transform the strong emotions that can surface when kids are making and you will be able to get some tips on how to help your students when they have a creative block.

Maker Educator, Kinetic Artist on the Making
Elda Webb has the driving mission to help others kick-start their maker journey by providing her students with a safe environment and to create exciting learning experiences with a variety of opportunities to explore tools, materials, technologies and processes. She has over 15 years of experience teaching design and technology related subjects such as 3D modeling, computer aided design (CAD), creativity and innovation, electronics, robotics and programing. She worked for Autodesk Singapore for over 9 years as a Learning Experience Specialist and Content Developer before becoming a Maker Educator. She is currently working with Strawbees Singapore (My Art Buddies) to conduct maker related programs and conduct Assembly talks about Creativity, Innovation and the Maker Mindset in Singapore schools. She is also one of the Lead facilitators for the SG Maker Lab and Kids Hack Day programmes run at the NLB Libraries.
Elda is also leading the Make-N-Play Imagination Chapter every week in partnership with Beyond Social Services, where kids from the underprivileged communities of Henderson, Whampoa and Jalan Bukit Merah get the opportunities to explore the maker world. She has been part of the Maker Movement since 2011 when she bought her first 3D Printer, which started her maker journey and led her to found The Curious Design.Network.
